The
public is invited to watch the completion of the first barn logo
designed to honor
Kansas
’s sesquicentennial at a barn near Dexter on Saturday, October
18 at 1 p.m.
The
barn logo painting is one of the activities planned as part of the

series. The purpose
of the B.Y.O.L.C. is to increase awareness of issues and
opportunities in rural communities.

Morland.
Augusta
artist Kerry Unrein will put the
finishing touches on the logo painting
on Grady and Shannon Martin’s barn roof.
The barn is located ˝ mile north of Dexter on K-15.
The painting will include a sunflower, the years 1861-2011,
and a
Kansas
version of
Mount Rushmore
honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower, Amelia Earhart, Bob Dole, and
former Governor Robert Docking.
Docking lived and worked in nearby

The
barn logo is a project of the Kansas Barn Alliance who is
encouraging each county to have at least one barn painted with a
sunflower logo and the years 1861-2011.
The goal would be to have this statewide project completed
by the sesquicentennial year 2011.
At
1 p.m. representatives of the Kansas Barn Alliance, Dexter, Cowley
County Tourism, and barn owners Grady and Shannon Martin will talk
to the outdoor lawn-chair sitters while artist Unrein will be
painting in the background.
