SCKEDD
Housing Programs
Mike
West with South Central Kansas Economic Development District
(SCKEDD) recently presented information about several housing
programs both for individuals and communities in the ABCDE area.
These included the First Time Home Buyer program, which can assist
low income individuals with downpayment assistance and repairs for
purchasing a residence, the Weatherization program which also
assists with repairs such as furnaces and insulation, the
Kansas Accessibility Modification Program which assists
individuals with disabilities with home modifications, and the
Emergency Repair Program which also assists individuals based on
income guidelines. Program income guidelines vary and
applicants are encouraged to contact SCKEDD for more information
before applying.
Mr.
West also presented information for communities which wish to
apply for CDBG or HOME Rehabilitation Grant funds. The program allows
communities to apply on an annual competitive basis for home
rehabilitation funds which usually are matched with local
dollars to assist individuals that meet the income guidelines.
Debra Teufel also presented information about community
neighborhood revitalization programs.

CONNECTIONS
CAN MAKE A GIGANTIC DIFFERENCE!
One
Day Workshop
Thurs.,
Mar. 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. $30
Kansas
Sampler Center near Inman
When
the town of Lehigh
needed Christmas lights, the word was put out over a
patched-together statewide e-mail network and within 24 hours
Lehigh had more than enough Christmas lights! When
a free-lance writer for a major publication wanted a story on
small town barbers, the word went out over an e-mail network and
she got more than enough leads.
What would happen if we concentrated on improving that
network? Think of the variety of issues and questions we
could solve. Do you have just one person in your office?
All that attend this workshop will go home feeling like they have
a whole team behind them!
WORKSHOP
PURPOSE: We’ll
actually bring
networks together at this workshop and start sharpening the
connections immediately. You’ll learn how to use this tool
as a membership benefit or recruitment tool, too, for your
organization!
WHO
SHOULD ATTEND? Organization
presidents, the person in charge of communication among members,
or anyone! The common thread will be tourism and community
development but organizations that focus on art, architecture,
commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history, or people would
add to the energy of the day and find benefit.
WHAT
WILL WE ACCOMPLISH? 1)
We’ll start creating e-networks that benefit your organization;
2) teach you how to set the right tone in your group e-mails,
inspire response, and empower your group; 3) discuss podcasts,
blogs, and forums; 4) learn the benefit of sharing collective
knowledge; and 5) discuss the benefits of establishing an Explorer
Tourism registry.
TO
REGISTER: (limit
of 30, deadline Mar. 14). Send your name, organization,
address, phone, e-mail, and web site plus $30 (includes lunch) to
Kansas Sampler Foundation, 978 Arapaho Road, Inman, KS
67546.
