ABCDE Monday Messenger

ABCDE – Better Together   

Greetings!  This is the ninety second edition of the Monday Messenger.  Its purpose is to bring you current information about the ABCDE project and area.  ABCDE consists of local residents from Atlanta , Burden, Cambridge , Dexter and Eastern Cowley County working together for community development. 

 

“Girl’s Night Out” Christmas Sneak a Peek

The Stone Barn Mercantile will be holding its annual Christmas Open House during the Christmas in the Valley celebration.  However -  all ladies are invited to a special “Sneak a Peek” evening event on Tuesday, November 27th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (come and go). The event will include special holiday sales, a live band “Jenny Lou and the Buckaroos”, a Silpada jewelry consultant, door prizes, and complimentary wine and cheese tasting.  The Stone Barn is located one half mile north of Dexter on K15 Highway . Call 876-3467 for more information.

 

Christmas in Atlanta

Atlanta will be having “Christmas in Atlanta ” on Saturday, December 1st from 9:30 – 4.  Activities include 4 or 5 homes open for touring, a craft/gift show in the Cornerstone Christian Church Annex and a Food Booth.  For more information, please contact Judy Haggard at 620-394-2378 or by email jjhag@sktc.net.

 

Christmas in the Valley

Saturday, December 1st, will feature the annual Dexter Christmas in the Valley celebration.  It will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a reading of Christmas stories in the Museum.  A soup and dessert supper will be served at the City Building from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.  The Lighting of the Christmas Tree will occur at 6:00 with Madrigal Singers leading the community.  From 6:30 until 8:00, you are welcome to tour two lovely homes – Jack and Diane Massey’s and Ed and Hazel Young’s. 

The Gathering Place and Senior Citizen’s Center will have treats available on Saturday and Santa is rumored to appear. 

The Dexter High School Choir will present a Madrigal Feast beginning at 6:45 p.m.  The menu will include pork loin, potato, vegetable, salad, bread and dessert.  Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the school office or by calling (620) 876-5415.

The Stone Barn will hold its public Open House on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Cinnamon rolls and coffee will be available in the morning and bierocks and chili at noon.  Hot apple cider and treats will be provided throughout the day.  Live Christmas music sung by Micah Thom will be provided over the lunch hour and many items will be on sale.

 The Dexter Christmas in the Valley celebration is an annual event held the first Saturday in December.  It is promoted by the Dexter Economic Development Association.

Jack has assisted many businesses in Eastern Cowley County since ABCDE joined QUAD.

Through 2007, business owners and those with business ideas have access to a Professional Business Coach.  His name is Jack Newcomb and he is available for free, confidential advice and he will even come to you.  Through the ABCDE program, we have joined the QUAD EF project and have access to their business coach.  Many local banks, businesses and Cowley First assisted to pay the QUAD membership fee through December of 2007.  For more information contact Jack at (620) 249-2108.

Dexter will be celebrating Christmas in the Valley on Saturday, December 1st.  Several community activities will be held including home tours, dinner, Christmas lights, and more.  See attached flyer.

Through 2007, business owners and those with business ideas have access to a Professional Business Coach.  His name is Jack Newcomb and he is available for free, confidential advice and he will even come to you.  Through the ABCDE program, we have joined the QUAD EF project and have access to their business coach.  Many local banks, businesses and Cowley First assisted to pay the QUAD membership fee through December of 2007.  For more information contact Jack at (620) 249-2108.

November ABCDE Meeting Update

At the November meeting, the members decided to pursue joining the PRIDE program.  As part of this process, ABCDE will be completing a community needs assessment.  Watch for more information in the future.

ABCDE Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Atlanta Community Building .  A representative from the PRIDE program will speak to the group.

 

2007 Cowley Economic Forum

The Cowley Economic Forum will be held on Thursday, November 8th at Cowley College from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The forum is entitled “People, Place and Possibilities.  An enrollment form is attached. 

 

Dexter Scarecrow Contest

Winners of the first annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest, sponsored by Dexter area merchants, are:
