Monday Messenger
August 21, 2006 ABCDE – Better Together Greetings! This is the twenty-eighth edition of the Monday Messenger. Its purpose is to bring you current information about the ABCDE project and area. If you have anything to submit for the newsletter, please send it to me at shannonthom@hotmail.com. Great Meeting!! I thought that the ABCDE membership meeting last week was so great! We are really moving forward. There is always a lot of “organizational” stuff to starting a new organization but we are making good decisions and figuring out how to manage things. I’m really proud of this group and glad to be a part of it. One suggestion after the meeting was to give monthly reports on all of our goals/strategies. Since that would take most of the meeting time, it was suggested to give a written report. If each team leader could give a report to the board contact person before the meeting, then we will compile it into a written report to hand out. I’ll try to remind everyone a week or so before the meetings. Wastershed Management-Conservation Tour A twilight conservation tour will held on Thursday, August 24 beginning in Atlanta. A meal will be catered by Julie Headrick starting at 5:00 p.m. The bus tour will then travel to stops in the Upper Timber Creek watershed area. For reservations for this free tour, contact Jyl at (620) 221-1850, ext. 3. Focus Groups Jean Warta from the Department of Commerce will be conducting Focus Group discussions this week. Vacation We returned home last night from our annual family summer vacation at 10:30 p.m. It was a fun trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Along the way, we stopped at Laura Ingalls Wilder’s home in Mansfield, Missouri. It was the home where she lived as an adult while writing the “Little House” books. In 1950, Laura wrote a letter to children across the nation and I would like to share a portion of it with you. In the letter she wrote, “Today our way of living and our schools are much different…..but the real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with the simple pleasures and to be cheerful and have courage when things go wrong.” How true!!
